When Lauren told me she wanted to take some of her senior photos up on Castle Rock, Table Rock’s less famous neighbor, I was stoked: combine a portrait session with my other love hiking? Sold! The weather gods even blessed us with a beautiful sunset that evening – favorites below!
I’m pretty sure Hannah had one of the most gorgeous senior sessions of the season last year! The golden fields of the Military Reserve Park at Cottonwood Creek were the perfect pastoral look to start, with deserted Shaw Mountain Road around the corner giving us a beautiful country vibe up next. To finish, we made it all the way up to the Table Rock gate for an overlook of the Boise skyline and a stunning break in the clouds for sunset…and even the burned areas from the recent fires took on a surreal gorgeous glow. Such a blast working with Class of 2014 senior Rebekah last October – beautiful fall foliage and a beautiful girl! The two-hour session meant we had plenty of time to explore the “grungier” parts of downtown Boise like Freak Alley, and drive over to the Old Idaho Penitentiary and neighboring foothills trails for sunset. If any spot would be called a Boise classic, it’s Table Rock. Towering above the Treasure Valley with the golden foothills in the background, it’s not only a great spot to hike and watch the sunset, but a great choice for senior photos as well. Class of 2013 lacrosse player Mackenzie and I had a lot of fun on her senior photoshoot – she even brought her dog! Here are some favorites:
Table Rock is one of Boise’s most prominent landmarks, rising above the valley with its immediately-identifiable table-like summit. While the giant cross has been a constant source of controversy as long as I can remember, there’s no denying that whatever your faith, it makes for a pretty sight, especially with storm clouds and golden hour light. With all the rain lately, I bet the trail leading up to the summit is currently closed due to mud, but last week it was dry as a bone and a pleasant hike to the top!
